Where art begins

Jane describes her process as beginning in apparent chaos.

Layers of marks, colour and materials are built up intuitively as she waits for something within the painting to catch her attention.

She then pushes and responds to the work until it begins to reveal its own direction. Order appears from disorder.

I never really know exactly where a painting is going when I begin, and that is part of the excitement for me. I keep looking, adding, removing and responding until something happens that sparks my fire. I want the work to have energy and emotion and, most importantly, to make the person looking at it feel something” - Jane
